WHAT IS COW BY BEAR?
Cow by Bear is the vision of an anonymous chef that simply goes by the name, “Bear.” Started out of Bear’s apartment in 2011, Cow by Bear is now a highly regarded dinner party experience operating out of one of several secret downtown San Diego locations. Dinners take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8pm. Each dinner is reserved to 14 guests in a communal, social setting.
Cow by Bear is not just a dinner, it is a dinner party experience like no other, where you can expect to not only eat a world class meal cooked by a Bear, but leave with new friends. We look forward to spending an evening with you.
WHO IS BEAR? Chef Bear’s identity is a mystery but there’s no denying his/her cooking chops and ability to throw a party. Rumors have been swirling since Cow by Bear’s inception about who is underneath the suit, but the secret remains.
HOW CAN I MAKE A RESERVATION? Cow by Bear operates under a special ticketing system, where guests purchase tickets online for an available dinner, much like purchasing tickets for a concert or sporting event. Simply visit our Tickets page, select your party size and available date. You’ll be asked to make payment to purchase your tickets and your reservation will be complete.
CAN I RESERVE THE ENTIRE TABLE OF 14? Yes, as long as 14 seats are available for the dinner of your choice, you can reserve all 14 seats. If you have any further questions regarding a private party, please email Bear at email@example.com you have any additional questions about private parties.
WHEN ARE DINNERS? Cow by Bear hosts dinners every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8pm. Dinners typically last 2.5-3 hours. There are no walk-ins.
HOW MUCH IS COW BY BEAR? Dinner is a prepaid $175 per person. Our hosts certainly appreciate additional gratuity after the dinner.
WHAT DOES A TICKET INCLUDE? Dinner is five courses, highlighted by our signature 50-day dry aged ribeye roast. Upon arriving, guests receive a snack and a cocktail, and three of the courses are expertly paired with fine wine.
WHAT DOES COMMUNAL SEATING MEAN? Guests sit together at a table for 14. You’ll enter as strangers but leave as friends.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHERE THE DINNER IS? The day before your dinner you will receive an email from Bear with the address and additional details for the evening.
CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE ALLERGIES? Please note any food restrictions when making your reservation, as we begin preparation for each dinner far in advance. As long as we are given at least two weeks notice, we should be able to accommodate any restrictions.
CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE VEGETARIANS? Cow by Bear is designed for meat-eaters, evident by our signature 50-day dry aged ribeye roast as the main course. That said, we’ve certainly hosted vegetarians before and have had a great response. The other courses are traditionally vegetarian-friendly and we’re sure to pack the plates extra full in this occasion. However, we’re unable to provide a main course substitution for the beef.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE CAN I MAKE A RESERVATION? You can purchase tickets up to one year in advance. Dinners generally book out several months in advance, so the earlier you make a reservation the better.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T SHOW UP ON TIME? Dinner starts promptly at 8pm and it is important to your dinner experience and the experience of the other guests that you arrive on time. Please keep in mind that we are not able to delay the start of our dinner or offer discounts to your meal if you show up late.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE? There is no dress code. Be comfortable.
ARE KIDS ALLOWED? Dinners are reserved for guests 21 and over.
TICKET SYSTEM LOG-OUT TIMES Please be aware that you will have 10 minutes to complete your transaction once tickets are selected. If you exceed the allotted time, you will be signed out and the tickets will be released back into our system for other guests.
WHY DO YOU USE A TICKET SYSTEM Ticketing allows us to anticipate who is coming in properly prepare the meal to the best of our abilities. It also allows us to operate in the most efficient way, which makes for a better dinner party experiment.
CAN I GET A REFUND OR EXCHANGE MY TICKET Much like attending a concert or sporting event, all sales are final. If you cannot come, we recommend you transfer your ticket to someone else. If you’d like to inquire about transferring your ticket to another date, please email Bear at email@example.com and we’ll do our best to help accommodate this.
CAN I GIVE MY TICKET AWAY OR SELL IT? Yes. The ticket is completely transferable although selling the tickets for more than face value may be illegal in your area. If purchasing a ticket from another ticketholder, you must make sure you receive a formal transfer of the ticket through our official website, cowbybear.com. Any ticket purchased on the secondary market are at the purchaser’s risk and not recommended. We cannot accept responsibility for forgeries of misrepresentations on any ticket not transferred through our website.
HOW DO I TRANSFER MY TICKET? To transfer a ticket, log in to your account, go to the “My Account” area using the upper right navigation pane and select “Your Tickets.” Each ticket has a transfer button next to it.
DO YOU TAKE WALK-INS? No. You must purchase tickets in advance to attend a dinner.
DO YOU ALLOW CORKAGE? We take great care in pairing our wines with the meal you will be eating and believe we are providing the best experience possible. If you would like to bring in a special bottle of wine or other beverage, you can do so at no additional cost, but please be willing to share with the entire table if you decide to do so. The best dinners are when everybody shares in the good times.
MAY I INCREASE THE SIZE OF MY PARTY? You may increase the size of your party as long as tickets are still available for the dinner you are attending. If your party increases and additional tickets are not available, we recommend transferring your tickets and making a reservation for a future date.
